I often find myself waking just before the sun rises. Not by alarm, but by some inner rhythm that feels ancient and sacred. Across comparative traditions, this liminal time — the cusp between night and day — is revered. And I’ve found it to be true in my own practice: this hour holds a purity that’s hard to describe, yet unmistakable once felt.

In one Eastern tradition, the day is divided into elemental periods, and this early morning phase is known as the Akasha period — the time of spirit, ether, and spaciousness. It’s a window of stillness, where the veil between the physical and the spiritual feels thinnest. Akasha invites us to return to essence, to breathe into being.

In esoteric astrology, this corresponds with the Ascendant — the rising sign on the horizon at the moment of birth. Just as the Ascendant marks the beginning of the natal chart, this hour marks the birth of a new day. It’s a potent time to align with your own rising energy, to set intentions, and to listen deeply.

For me, this is my sacred hour. Today, it spans from 6:04 AM to 7:04 AM — and yes, I’m starting a bit late today! But the invitation remains: to sit in meditation, to practice pranayama, and to enter contemplation. Not to achieve, but to attune.

My grandfather used to call this “Greeting the Day.” He’d rise early, often humming or praying softly, and would repeat the old platitude: “Early to bed, early to rise…” It wasn’t just about discipline — it was about reverence. He believed in living with the natural cycles, in honoring the rhythm of light and dark, rest and action. He’d often quote Ecclesiastes: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”

That ethos lives in me now. Greeting the day isn’t just a habit — it’s a ritual of alignment. A way to meet the world with clarity, humility, and grace. To remember that we are part of something vast and rhythmic, and that our breath, our thoughts, our intentions can harmonize with it.

If this resonates with you, perhaps this is your moment to begin. Let’s start by getting your energetic profile grounded — your chart, your breath, your rhythm. The day is new. The sky is listening.
