The Special Connection of the New Moon and Part of Fortune
When Interpreting a New Moon there are many consideration that tell us how it may express it’s energy in both the World in General as well as the individual.
One of the astrological phenomena that occur at the exact time of a new moon is the Part of fortune is exactly on the Ascendent of the chart cast for that moment. Does this have any astrological significance?
Yes, this alignment does hold astrological significance! The Part of Fortune is a mathematical point in astrology that represents luck, prosperity, and well-being. When it sits exactly on the Ascendant at the moment of a New Moon, it amplifies the themes of new beginnings, personal fortune, and potential growth.
It’s important to note that the ascendant is not constant, but changes by location, based on the location it is cast for. For example, the current New Moon that I am examining for my New Moon Group on Zoom, “What in the Heavens is going on?” the Part of Fortune and Ascendant in Vancouver is 25° Scorpio 48″but in London, and England it is 13°Taurus 53′. This means that not only are the POF and ASC are different, but the house it falls in in the New Moon Chart is in a different house, as all the house cusps and midheaven change.
Since the New Moon marks the start of a lunar cycle, it is often associated with fresh starts and planting seeds for future success. The Part of Fortune on the Ascendant at this moment suggests that the energy of the New Moon is particularly potent for personal development, visibility, and opportunities.
It can indicate a time when one’s natural talents and circumstances align favourably, making it an auspicious moment for setting intentions and initiating new ventures.
Additionally, the sign and house placement of the Part of Fortune will further refine its influence. If it is in a harmonious sign, it may bring ease and abundance, while a more challenging placement could indicate the need for effort to unlock its potential.
As the Part of Fortune is one of many points from an ancient astrology called “lots” or “Arabic Parts”! Traditional astrology “judged” the Part as to its Position and Condition. If the Part and its ruling planet are in a harmonious sign and house, especially its ruling planet and “unafflicted” and supported by a soft aspect, decimation it is considered “Beneficial”. If in a disharmonious sign or house ‘afflicted” by hard aspects. This will provide a basis of the collective effect of the new moon.
A recent event that illustrates the collective effect of the new moon was the Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver, which was where the largest mass murder in the city’s history. I wouldn’t hang this terrible event on just the new moon, there are several factors…
- The New Moon’s ascendant and therefore also the POF is Leo (the sign of fun and festivals) which means the Sun is the ruler of the chart.
- The Sun (and Moon) are the focal point for a T-Square with Pluto opposite Mars, which when expressed in its negative state, its sociological interpretation is “brutality” and “extreme actions”.
The judgement of how the new moon might be expressed in your life, while the most common considerations are the sign, house it occurs and transits, looking at the Ascendant and POF can add another nuance to your understanding of the next 28 days (lunar month).
