Navigating Mercury Retrograde

Embrace the cosmic dance as Mercury, the messenger of the gods, begins its retrograde motion. It is during these times that we may find ourselves faced with challenges and disruptions in communication and technology. However, let us not succumb to fear or frustration. Instead, let us choose to see this period as an opportunity for growth, reflection, and transformation. With an open mind and a positive attitude, we can navigate the energies of Mercury retrograde and emerge stronger than ever before.

A phenomenon often seen with all retrograde planets, especially with Mercury, is we often pick up on things we’ve left unfinished from previous retrograde cycles in the current retrograde cycle.  This is especially true if you are not content with the way your life is going, and need do some introspection. In this case you will notice that you go through a sort of “trail and error” over the 3-4 Mercury Retrograde Cycles.

Your unique dance will depend on the Transits, Aspects, and other factors in your natal chart, which your astrologer can help you understand, or if you’re a DIY astrologer, you can find these in your chart.  I’ve included the previous few cycles as well at the upcoming.  Checking previous cycles and how they were experienced can provide us with valuable insights into how this cycle is creating how you cognize, then execute, evaluate, and re-evaluate your plans for life.

I’ve watched Mercury retrograde in my clients’ charts, and while it has a reputation of creating a lot of frustration in plans, communication, and technology, if we approach it as a opportunity, we often find that it can be very beneficial.  I have two stories that illustrate the favorable outcome of working with the retrograde, and one of the difficult outcomes from ignoring this cycle.

The first, and favorable outcome was an author who was in the process of writing a book, which she started on a new chapter just as Mercury was going retrograde.  She had just started using new software which organized all her notes, research as well as what she wrote.  Then it happened, she though as she had successfully moved everything over the new software, she deleted the originals. The next day when she opened the program, most of the files where missing, and she didn’t have aback up. Instead of letting her frustration discourage her, she started again to put the research, notes, and rewriting.  During this process, she suddenly realized that the new research, and the insight it provided was much better than what she lost.

The second story is about a real estate agent who often would ask me to look at the best dates to list her properties and set up an open house.  As I am looking at her preferred date, I noticed that Mercury Retrograde was in her natal 4th house (real estate).  She was set on scheduling the open house on that particular day.  As there were no difficult aspects in her chart to Mercury retrograde, I reluctantly let her talk me into concluding that it should be alright, the thought being that while not being the ideal it might be okay!  My thinking was that there were no hard aspects, that while others might miss something, she wouldn’t.  As it turned out, due to a miscommunication, the staging company didn’t show up.  It was not a mistake she made, but the mistake made by her staging  company that resulting in cancelling her open house.

I’ve included four ways you can make the most of this period. These can be helpful to everyone during the Mercury Retrograde Periods, even if you are not familiar with astrology and your natal chart.

During this cosmic phenomenon, patience is key. Technology may falter, miscommunications may arise, and plans may go astray. Instead of becoming frustrated, practice patience and flexibility. Accept that changes can occur and learn to adapt to different circumstances. By doing so, you will strengthen your resilience and develop a calm and composed mind.

Mercury retrograde may bring misunderstandings or unresolved issues to the surface. It is a chance to review and refresh our relationships.
